Artistic  practice

I see my work as a maker with great responsibility for what my work does. I believe that art in general has the power to create a sense of social empathy and a sense of “us”, it can help us to see the things we have in common rather than the things we don’t.

The central question of my practice is: “Can we do love?” I began asking myself this question after reading Bell Hooks’ All About Love and starting my research on love. Bell Hooks writes: love is an active force that leads us into communion with the world.
How do I, as an artist, go into communion with the world? In communion with space, with the audience, and with my collaborators? How can we truly encounter one another? With open eyes, with attentiveness? How do we create spaces not only of agreement, but of connection beyond agreement?
My research on love has become the central question of my practice and connects my choreographic work with my practice as an intimacy coordinator.
My work as an intimacy coordinator informs my choreographic practice in that I cultivate respectful, safe, and consent-based working environments. Beyond that, I aim to question and break normative narratives around sexuality, intimacy, and the body, in favor of complexity, multiplicity, and diverse identities.
My choreographic practice, it is rooted in score based choreography, improvisation and instant composition. favouring an ongoing-research and a re-evaluation of current processes. I am exited by the human body, by its physical and cognitive skills, by its history and its multitude of possibilities for expression and its capacity for countless transformations.
I Nourish a collaborative working atmosphere that focusses on the process. I value a certain lightness paired with thorough, beyond-the-surface research. I invite laughter as much as tears and enjoy working with contrasts.
I am particularly interested in resonance, in silence and dynamics and In the ideas of sociologist Hartmut Rosa’s thoughts on resonance and our relationship to the world. That encounters require time, that relationships and resonance can emerge when we make ourselves approachable to the world: open, attentive, and ready to be moved.

My work explores themes of identity, social structures and human behaviour,  and aims at creating sensory and poetic experiences that invite audiences into a shared space of reflection and empathy.
My focus lies in cultivating these shared spaces: working and performance environments for resonance, encounter, and embodied experience. I consciously work with intergenerational and interdisciplinary groups and understand dance as a social and discursive space in which different perspectives, bodies, and lived experiences come into relation. I strongly believe in diversity on stage, both in terms of subjectivities and corporealities. Everyone can dance if the space exists for it, and dance can be many things.
My work engages with questions of belonging, collectivity, and social fragmentation, and artistically negotiates contemporary cultural and social theoretical discourses on resonance and singularization. In doing so, I aim to contribute to current discourses on community, empathy, and artistic responsibility in a present marked by fragmentation.
